NEWKIRK — The city of Newkirk has several upcoming activities for the month of May and invites the community to participate to get out of the house for spring.

This weekend, May 6 – 7 will be the townwide garage sales. Homeowners looking to do a little spring cleaning, or organizations wishing to for a fundraiser event can have a booth.

Permits can be obtained at city hall and are at a discount.

“They are at a discounted rate than what is normal, $10,” said City Manager Ryan Smykil. “The permits are good for Saturday and Sunday.”

The following weekend, May 13, is the annual city-wide cleanup, which is in conjunction of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful. Homeowners are able to clean up their property, whether that be mowing, or brush and junk removal. They also can help neighbors, or volunteer with local organizations like Newkirk Main Street.

“There’ll be dumpsters up here at city hall like in the past,” Smykil said. “This is a chance to cleanup their property and getting things that are hard to get to. We’ll also have trailers for painting items.”

For more information, including obtaining a permit, contact city hall at (580) 362-2117.
