Amphitheater events abound this weekend

Press Release

NEWKIRK — The Kay County Amphitheater, located at Ninth and Main in Newkirk will host free events both Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9.

Comedian Tavin Dillard will be at the Kay County Amphitheater on Friday. Live music from Salt Fork Revival will start at 7 p.m., with Tavin Dillard performing at 7:30.

Dillard began making videos for YouTube in 2006. He has received millions of views online, through YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. His stories of life in his town has people of all ages laughing and telling their friends to come laugh too. He has performed standup comedy around the country from North Carolina to California and states in between. Dillard will also have a meet and greet afterward.

Food trucks will be on-site.

On Saturday night, the amphitheater will host Reach for the Sky, an acoustic band which has played music around the Wichita, Kan. area since 1989. With solid roots in folk and bluegrass, the group’s musical interests comprise a wide variety of styles, including contemporary pop, gospel and toe-tapping bluegrass with outstanding vocal harmonies.

Russell and Sherry Brace are original members of the band. They also are the original creators and owners of Stage 5 at the Walnut Valley Festival, Winfield, Kan. Russell and Sherry both play bass and guitar.

Bruce Johnson joined the group in 2014. He plays resonator guitar and sings bass. In 2015, Janet Rhoads joined the group to play fiddle. The original banjo player had to leave the band when her husband took a job in Texas so the newest member of the band is Brent Entz on banjo.

Although the band mostly plays in the Wichita area, Russel and Sherry reside in Arkansas City. Bruce and Janet both live in Wichita and Brent lives in Walton, Kan.

Saturday night the amphitheater will also host the Kay County Youth Pop Up Shop, a special opportunity for youth who are creating their own products, growing produce for a farmers market booth or baking/cooking food items. Come support them as they showcase their products!

Bring a friend and a chair/blanket and join us for these fun, free entertainers. Follow Kay County Amphitheater on Facebook for the latest event information.
