Kaylen Mills, Owen Case honored as NHS Students of the Month

NEWKIRK — Press Release

Newkirk High School (NHS) is excited to recognize students that exemplify the Newkirk ideals and this month the faculty and staff have selected

Kaylen Mills and Owen Case.

Mills is the daughter of Micah Mills, Dustin Mills and Sydney Mills and is involved in many activities and honors. These activities include softball, basketball, track, FCA, National Honor Society, choir and GATS. Her favorite subject in school is math because there is always a right answer and explanation.

Her awards and honors that she has received includes Softball Rookie of the year (2018-19), Superior State Choir Ensemble (2018-19), Softball All-District Team (20-21), FCA President (2020-21), Basketball Offensive Player of the Year (2020-21), Softball Offensive Player of the Year (2020-21), National Honor Society and Softball All-Region Team (2021-22).

She contributes her success to being pushed and motivated by her teachers and coaches, as well as her drive to get into a good college. Her plans after high school are to attend college while continuing to play sports and major in math education.  Her advice to underclassmen is to be involved in everything you can and include everyone that you can.

Case is the son of Kim Case. His activities include being active in Drama, Stepp-Up, National Honor Society and the Safe School Committee. His favorite subject in school is Drama because it is always something fun and interesting.

He has been the recipient of many academic achievement awards for several subjects and was nominated for Academic All State and the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education. He believes that his love for reading has contributed to his success in school.

After graduation he plans to attend college and find out what he wants to do with his life. His advice to underclassmen is that at the simplest level, just be good to people. Then you can do community service or pay taxes and all that jazz.
