NEWKIRK — Downtown Newkirk is the heart of the community, and the Courthouse Square is seeing a revitalization, due to the construction of the Courthouse Annex and Extension buildings. Another plan is a new amphitheater, located adjacent to the new buildings, to bring more artistic performances the the community.
Community members have a chance to make that a success, with an upcoming fundraiser for the project, to be held Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 10 a.m.
The first amphitheater pumpkin fundraiser was held in October 2019, with not only pumpkin sales, but also food, games and a late-night movie, with assistance from the city of Arkansas City.
This year, due to COVID-19, the event will be primarily a pumpkin fundraiser, although there will be some food available, some courtesy of Apple Market, along with baked goods from local community members.
“This will be the biggest pumpkin sale we’ve ever seen,” said amphitheater committee chairperson Kim Shanks. “We’ll have every pumpkin, of every shape, color and size. Anyone and everyone can come and buy their pumpkins We will also have fall crafts available, made b a local artist. They are also super cute.”
All revenue earned will support the Newkirk Main Street amphitheater project.
“We will be out here until dusk, or until the pumpkins are sold, and we hope to sell all of them,” Shanks said. “Come out, celebrate the fall season and get you pumpkin to support the amphitheater project.”
More information can be found at the committee’s Facebook page.
“Also, like us on Facebook. We post informnation about the upcoming pumpkin sale, ad other opportujites that support Newkirk and the Kay County Amphitheater,” Shanks said. “Find us by tying in ‘Kay County Amphitheater’ to your Facebook bar.”
