Firetrucks, flapjacks, and freedom event

The Kay County Amphitheater is hosting “Firetrucks, Flapjacks and Freedom,” a two-day community event Friday and Saturday.
This entire celebration is free to the public and designed for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to comfortably enjoy the lineup of entertainment, activities, and local food trucks.
The festivities kick off from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday focusing on youth activities and a massive milestone for the United States. Highlights include:
An Historic Birthday Bash: Enjoy free birthday cake celebrating the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.
Youth Competitions: Kids can showcase their creativity in a Chalk Art Contest, as well as a Bicycle Decorating Contest and Parade.
Live Entertainment: A special children’s theater performance and professional face painting will run throughout the evening.
The excitement continues from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday (with an early start for wellness enthusiasts), featuring:
Morning Wellness and Shopping: Start the day with Early Morning Yoga at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Craft Fair opening at 9 a.m..
Free Breakfast: Dig into a complimentary flapjack breakfast to fuel up for the day.
Arts & Culture: Enjoy another live children’s theater performance alongside inspiring patriotic storytelling.
Beat the Heat: Kids (and kids at heart) can cool off with an exciting fire truck water play session.
“We are so excited to bring the community together for a weekend that honors our country’s history while creating wonderful memories for local families,” said Kim Shanks, with the Newkirk Arts Council. “From the free breakfast to the fire trucks, there is truly something for everyone.”
