Just over three weeks after Isabella Rogers, of Newkirk, was hit by a car in rural Kay County, she was released from the hospital in Tulsa and returned home on June 10.
As a result of her injury, she had to have part of her leg amputated. She also endured multiple surgeries and blood transfusions.
Just a few days before her May 23 accident, Rogers had just graduated from high school. While in the hospital, she had her 19th birthday.
On Monday, her mother TiAta Dawn said a ramp was built outside their house in Newkirk installed by The Ramp Team, sponsored by RSVP of Kay County, United Way, and St. Pauls United Methodist Church.
The Go Fund Me page for Prayers and Aid for Isabella’s Healing Journey has so far raised $355 since its beginning last month.
Rogers said she was thankful for the ramp. “It’s such a blessing and I can’t thank them enough,” she added.
Dawn said she and her family are humbled and grateful for the community’s support.
“They say it takes a village. Newkirk has shown us time and time again that they are our village,” Dawn said. “Newkirk is home. I love being a Newkirkian.”
She said her daughter is getting better and better every day and can’t wait to get her first prosthetic.
In the meantime, she said her family has been helping to get other parts of the house done to better accommodate her daughter’s needs.
