Storm damage highlights city manager report

Newkirk City Manager Jane Thomas began her most recent report by speaking of the storm damage the city received near the end of April.
“There were electric outages, two poles were broken off and lots of tree damage and lots of rain. All departments did their part — from weather watching and public notifications, restoring utilities, clearing streets, it was a team effort by all,” Thomas said.
Thomas gave a brief update on the splash pad, which she said was still in the process of being installed in Lions Park. Crews are having to work around the weather but it will be up and going for the summer, Thomas stated.
Thomas said the city’s new website still has not launched as Thomas said she still needs to finalize her training.
“I have several online tutorials to review and complete. This has been a process.”
The contractor at the Sewer Lagoon Project began work on May 1. Thomas said that the contractor must start and show progress so their bonding company will continue to support their projects. “Indian Health Services have received all the invoices for the #1 Lift Station,” she said. “At the time of this report I am waiting on a response for when the city will receive funds for these totaling $1,367,411.40.”
