St. Andrews, Calfy named NHS Students of the Month

Press Release

NEWKIRK — Newkirk High School (NHS) is excited to recognize students that exemplify the Newkirk ideals and this month the faculty and staff have selected Payton St. Andrews and Joseph Calfy as the April Students of the Month.

St. Andrews is the daughter of Lacy and Brian St. Andrews. She is involved in softball and soccer and says her favorite subject in school is Ag because she likes learning about nature. Her awards include being chosen as the district runner-up for softball catcher of the year.

She contributes her success in school to her family by helping her study so she can pass her tests.

Her plans after high school are to go to college and obtain a degree in athletic training. Her advice to underclassmen is to be respectful to adults and elders.
Calfy is the son of Sharon and Allen Calfy. He is interested in welding, drag racing and supercross. He is a member of the National Honor Society and shares that history is his favorite subject because it brought us to where we are today.

Awards and honors that he has received include being placed on the 2023 Wall of Fame for Welding at Pioneer Technology Center (PTC). He has also earned distinction on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for both PTC and NHS. Joseph contributes his success to his determination to never give up and to always strive to be better.

His plans after high school are to pursue a career in the welding industry. His advice to underclassmen is to look inside of themselves and understand that they can be something greater.
