NEWKIRK — The winter months have set in, and many people will be spending more time indoors to escape the cold. For those looking for indoor activities to do, the Newkirk Public Library (NPL) is announcing the return of the winter bingo activity for community members to snuggle up to books as they keep warm.
The event takes place each winter and summer to encourage reading among to participants. The 2021 winter bingo began Dec. 28, and will continue through Thursday, April 1.
Readers can stop by the NPL to receive a bingo card with a variety of genres to read, which includes subjects such as mystery, historical fiction, western, biography and best sellers, as well as “free choice,” where the reader chooses the book.
The program is divided between adult and young adult, and completed cards receive a gift card from area businesses like Dollar General and Walmart.
There is also a grand prize for both divisions.
“If they complete the card, all 24 squares, they get put in a drawing for a (Amazon) Kindle HD; otherwise they get a gift card,” said NPL Librarian Marcina Overman.
