NEWKIRK — Newkirk children will take a step back in time June 14 with a drive-in movie on the Kay County Courthouse lawn, and on June 8, they will create their own custom-built car to watch the movie in style.

Build My Ride in an event of the Newkirk Main Street Promotion committee.

Participating children will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Hole in the Wall Park, located at 123 N. Main. Committee members will assist the children in designing and constructing their new vehicles, using cardboard boxes donated by local businesses, such as Main Street Bakery, Cheeky Burger, Equity Bank and Locke Auto Supply. Pre-registration is $5 and can be done at Newkirk Main Street, 116 N. Main, Monday-Thursday, June 3-6.

The new “drivers” will meet at the Kay County Courthouse June 15 for Movie on the Courthouse and will view a special viewing of “Ralph Breaks the Internet.” Lawn activities with available concessions begin at 6:30 p.m., and the movie begins at sundown. The program is sponsored by Newkirk Main Street and the Arkansas City Parks and Recreation department.
