Newkirk FFA takes part in spring shootout
Press Release
Last week, Newkirk FFA traveled to Connors State College to compete in the Spring Shootout, where students had the opportunity to compete in both archery and shotgun sports events alongside teams from across the state.
Throughout the shoot, students rotated through multiple events, working through different courses and target presentations while gaining experience in a competitive setting.
Archery (3-D and Paper Courses): Jessica Hobaugh, Huck Grace, and Hayden Johnson.
Shotgun Sports (Trap and Sporting Clays): Connor Schaefer, Huck Grace, Jacob Merhoff. Hayden Johnson, Levi Kubik.
Archers competed on both a paper course and a 3-D course. The paper round focuses on consistency and accuracy at known distances. The 3-D course uses lifelike animal targets set at varying distances, requiring shooters to judge range and adjust their shot placement.
Shotgun competitors participated in both trap and sporting clays. Trap targets are thrown from a single house and move away from the shooter in consistent patterns.
Sporting clays presents a variety of target angles, speeds, and heights, giving shooters a different look at each station.
