Candidate filing begins for Newkirk, Braman, Kaw City and Tonkawa municipal offices

NEWKIRK — Candidates interested in filing for office in Newkirk, Braman, Kaw City and Tonkawa municipalities will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6.
Carol Leaming, secretary of the Kay County Election Board, said Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 when the filing period ends. Leaming reminded voters that Contest of Candidacy must be filed no later than Feb. 10 and may only be filed by another candidate for that office unless a candidate files unopposed.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted for the following offices:
Newkirk Commissioner One
Braman Trustee Seats One, Three and Four
Kaw City Mayor, and Council Member Wards Two and Four
Tonkawa Council Member Wards Three and Four and Council Member at Large.
Declaration of Candidacy forms can be downloaded from the State Election Board Web site at oklahoma.gov/elections or by contacting your County Election Board Office at (580) 362-2130 or kaycounty@elections.ok.gov.
The Kay County Election Board is located at 219 S. Main St. in Newkirk and is open from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.
The election date is April 4 with a runoff Election date, if needed, June 13.
