Press Release

NEWKIRK — Newkirk High School is excited to recognize students that exemplify the Newkirk ideals, and this month the faculty and staff have selected Sarah Bales and Landen Vap.

Bales is the daughter of Don Bales and Tamara Blackwell. She is involved in Stepp-Up and enjoys painting. Her favorite subjects in school are science and history because she likes finding out new ways to do things and learning how people have changed over time.

Her honors include being recognized for her academics. She contributes to her success in school by working on limiting the times that she procrastinates. After high school, she plans on seeking out better employment and moving in with friends and her dog.

Her advice to underclassmen is to share their ideas about things. She believes that if people would listen to her generation and take them more seriously, then they could definitely help make our society better.

Vap is the son of Daryl and Julie Vap. He is a three-sport athlete and enjoys football, basketball, and baseball, all while being recognized on the superintendents honor roll. He is also busy being involved in STUCO and FCA and is a class officer.

His favorite subjects in school is economics and math of finance because this class adds value to everyday life after high school.

Vap contributes his success to his teachers, friends and parents. His plans after he graduates are to go to college and pursue a degree in instrumentation. His advice to underclassmen is to be respectful and kind to others, have a positive attitude and be involved.
