Bedore, Mayse named NHS January Students of the Month

Press Release

NEWKIRK — Newkirk High School (NHS) is excited to recognize students that exemplify the Newkirk ideals and this month the faculty and staff have selected Taylor Bedore and Layne Mayse.

Bedore is the daughter of Angela and Spenser Bedore. She is Miss Newkirk, the president of the Stepp-Up organization and serves as a Student Ambassador at Pioneer Technology Center.

Her favorite subject is English because she loves writing. She also enjoys History because she likes learning about what happened in the past.

Her honors include being on the school’s honor roll and being a member of the National Honor Society. Bedore cites her family as the biggest contributor to her success in school because they always push her to do her best. After high school, she plans to attend Cowely College and study Elementary Education.

Her advice to underclassmen is to be nice to one another and not use other people’s insecurities and disabilities against them.

Mayse is the son of Denyse Mayse and the late Timothy Mayse. He is involved in football and cheer and likes to duck hunt and hanging out with his friends. His favorite subject is math because he understands how numbers work better than anything else.

He made the all-regional cheer team and is a Class A State cheer champion. He also earned all-district for playing right tackle in football. He contributes his success in school to his mother for always being there for him when he needs help.

After high school Layne plans on attending college to study engineering. His advice to underclassmen is to do the small things like when you see somebody struggling, go help them out and be nice to everybody.
