Newkirk Library winter bingo begins

NEWKIRK — The winter season has arrived, and many people will be closed up indoors to escape the cold air outside. One activity to keep busy while inside is reading, and the Newkirk Public Library (NPL) is encouraging that activity through the Winter Reading Bingo, with winners earning Chamber Bucks to be used in the community.

The event began Dec. 27, 2022 and will run through April 1. Reading bingo is also held in the summer.

Participants must hold an NPL account. The only requirement for a card is to have a Kay County address.

Readers will receive a bingo card, but unlike tradition cards, with numbers and letters, each square has specific reading genres, such as “western,” “mystery” or “biography/memoir.”

Other squares include “best seller,” “favorite author” and “graphic novel.”

Readers must fill in a full line vertically, horizontally or diagonally with books they read, and those who finish a card will receive $25 in Chamber Bucks, to be used at businesses in Newkirk. Those who finish the entire card will be put in a drawing for an Amazon Kindle HD tablet. Previous Kindle HD winners will not be eligible for the drawing.

There will be drawings for both teen readers and adult readers.

Cards must be returned to NPL April 1.

NPL is located at 116. Maple.
