Wathor, Mayse named NHS students of the month

Press Release

NEWKIRk—Newkirk High School (NHS) is excited to recognize students that exemplify the Newkirk ideals, and this month the faculty and staff have selectedMorgan Wathor and Matthew Mayse.

Wathor is the daughter of Corbi and Desiree Wathor, and is involved in many activities and honors. These activities include band, Student Council, Stepp-UP, and the Pro-life Club. Her favorite subjects in school are drama, because it is a lot of fun and she loves the people in her class, and English IV because she loves her classmates and the stories that they have read.

Her awards and honors that she has received include Miss Newkirk 2022, Honor Band and two AP English awards. She contributes her success to using the apps Kahoot and Quizlet to help her study and plans on becoming a dental hygienist after graduation.

Her advice to underclassmen is to keep a positive attitude and be willing to welcome people into your community, and your circle of friends.

Mayse is the son of Denys Mayse and the late Timothy Mayse. His activities include being active in band, Cheer, FFA, National Honor Society and Student Council, and is the Senior Class President. His favorite subject in school is math because there is always a correct answer.

He is the recipient of two FFA awards, which include the Star Greenhand and Chapter Farmer awards, as well as receiving an Academic letter and State Champion in Co-ed Cheerleader for the past three years.

He believes that his mom pushing him to be great has contributed to his success in school. After graduation he plans to attend Cornell and major in Biomolecular Engineering. His advice to underclassmen is to be active in school activities and participate in community service projects.
