Newkirk Main Street announces fall activities

NEWKIRK — Fall is in the air, and many people are getting out of the house for the cooler temperatures. For those looking for activities in the community, Newkirk Main Street has plenty in store for early autumn, and are looking forward to working with everyone to make Newkirk a better place.
Newkirk Main Street will be holding a “Main Street Cleanup” on Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 9 a.m. at the Newkirk Main Street office, 116 N. Main St. Volunteers will be asked to weed pocket parks and sidewalks, pick up trash and clean along the curb in the 100 blocks of North and South Main Street.
The Amphitheater Committee will be holding their fall pumpkin sale on Oct. 10, starting at 10 a.m. The Promotion committee of Newkirk Main Street will be hosting a Lunch Mob at Cheeky Burger on Oct. 16. Volunteers will be judging Scarecrow Contest entries Wednesday, Oct. 21 after 3:30 p.m., and the community will be able to vote for the “People’s Choice” award at Equity Bank.
Newkirk Main Street is moving ahead with planning for the Children’s Christmas Shop, to be held Dec. 12, with the Adult Shop being held Dec. 13. Donations of wrapping paper, tissue paper and gift bows, bags and tags are still being sought. Shirt boxes are in abundance, and donations of those are not requested at this time. Donations may be dropped off at the Newkirk Main Street office from 12 to 5 p.m. Monday – Thursday.
