NEWKIRK — The flu season is approaching, and many people will receive their annual flu shots to protect their health through the fall and winter months. For Newkirk senior citizens, they can receive their flu shot at the Senior Center Friday, Sept. 25 with special social distancing protocols in place to protect public health.
The shots will be administered by Derrick Jones, of Family Discount Pharmacy, located at 310 Fairview Ave., Ponca City.
The senior participants can also receive a pneumonia shot at the same time.
The Senior Center has hosted the flu shots for many years, but 2020 will be different due to COVID-19.
“We will practice social distancing, and have as little contact as we can,” said Senior Center Director Serena Welch. “They’ll get a form from me, and I can help them fill it out. I will copy their Medicare card so there’ll be less contact with Jones.”
The Senior Center is also continuing the drive through lunches each Wednesday and Friday from 11:45 a.m. – noon.
Newkirk Main Street will hold a Lunch Mob at the Senior Center Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 11:30 a.m.
