Kay County Amphitheater

Press Release
NEWKIRK — The Kay County Amphitheater project is alive and well, and is busy with the fundraising phase for this worthwhile endeavor.
The formation of this project came in July 2017 when the Newkirk Main Street board approved the project. From there the project was approved by the Kay County Commissioners to be located on the Kay County Courthouse grounds, and a public forum was held and an advisory committee was formed.
In 2018 presentations from several architectural, design/build and pre-engineered structure companies were interviewed by the committee. The committee also met several times with the Kay County Commissioners to pinpoint the location on the grounds.
In April 2019, the commissioners voted on the final location, and the City of Newkirk’s design committee approved the pre-engineered amphitheater plans.
With these two important milestones reached, two fun and exciting fundraisers were held on the Kay County Courthouse grounds. The first was the “Quarters Around the Courthouse.” This was an educational fundraising event involving students, teachers and citizens. Then in October of 2019 a “Fun Fall Evening” community event and fundraiser was held on the courthouse lawn which included a pumpkin sale, games, food vendors, face painting and an outdoor movie for this family-friendly evening.
Currently, the committee is busy submitting grant requests to local foundations and various businesses. We are excited to report that of the $149,455 needed $71,347.91 has been raised, which is 48 percent of funds needed.
If you are ready to help support this project, you may make your check to Newkirk Main Street, which is a 501C3 and therefore completely deductible, and mail to P.O. Box 235, Newkirk, OK 74647. Please add Kay County Amphitheater in the remarks line of your check.
