NOC production ‘Next to Normal’ begins Thursday

TONKAWA — The Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) Fine Arts Production, “Next to Normal” will be presented at the Kinzer Performing Arts Center Nov. 14-17. Performances are Thursday – Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The cast includes Abigail Rose, Alyssa Hope Baker, Mason Smykil, Ryan Brown, Sarah Hunsucker, Noah Shaw and Jake Arington. The ensemble-stagehands include Christina Douglass, Austin Hamman, Carli Pendleton, Hunter Potter, Kolton Rhodes and Aleah Taylor.

Band members include Dr. Edward Dixon, conductor; Connie Van Ausdall, keyboard 1; Suzanne Sumpter, keyboard 2; Cassidy Broome, cello; Drew Faulkner, guitar; Paul Palma, bass; and Faith Crum, drum set.

The musical is directed by Chad Anderson. Admission is free and parental guidance is suggested due to strong language and mature themes.

The rock musical was written by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. It is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International.

NOC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers associate degrees in three general areas: Arts, Science and Applied Science.  The associate degree fulfills lower-division course work which is applicable towards a bachelor’s degree.
