NEWKIRK — A young woman was flown to a Tulsa hospital Thursday morning, Sept. 12, following a two-vehicle accident near 7 Clans Casino north of Newkirk.
The Newkirk Fire Department (NFD) responded to the accident at about 9:45 a.m., along with the Kay County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
A female driving a Toyota pickup was attempting to turn into 7 Clans Casino, and turned in front of a semi-truck headed south, according to the NFD. She was removed from the vehicle prior to the NFD’s arrival, according to Fire Chief Adam Longcrier.
“We took care of her injuries and called a medi-flight helicopter to fly her to a trauma center,” he said.
The victim was transported by ambulance to SouthWind Casino east of Newkirk to meet the helicopter, due to an impending storm, he said.
The victim was admitted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
“She received multiple fractures to her legs, and a head injury,” Longcrier said.
The truck driver had no treatable injuries. The NFD did not release names due to the investigation by OHP.
