Bernadine Marie Goddard
Bernadine Marie Goddard, longtime Newkirk resident, died early
Tuesday morning, Nov. 27.2007 at her home in Ponca City. She
was 74.
The daughter of Walter Helmut and Geneva Marie (Barnhart) Rahlf,
Bernadine was born Dec. 6, 1932 in Blackwell. She grew up in
the rural Blackwell area and received her education in Star Rutal
School and the Blackwell Junior and Senior High Schools.
On April 16, 1951 Bernadine and Merrell Leon Goddard were married
in Newkirk. They established their home in Ne-wkirk where they
lived the entire 53 years of their married life. Mr. Goddard
died May 2,2004. Mrs. Goddard remained in Newkirk until July
of this year when she moved with her daughter to Ponca City.
Mrs. Goddard's working history over time includes: waitressing
in Mellie's Cafe and the White House Cafe, both in Newkirk; employment
with the Rodeo Meat Packing Plant in Arkansas City where she
worked for 30 years, retiring when the plant closed; and employment
with Imperial Plastics, Inc. of Newkirk.
Mrs. Goddard attended St. Luke's Church of the Nazarene. She
enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, reading, oil painting and
her dogs.
Her survivors include one son, Darrell Goddard of Newkirk; a
daughter, Merletta Kay Jones of Ponca City; a daughter-in-law,
Susie Goddard of Wichita; and one sister, Ernestine Henrichs
of Blackwell. Also surviving are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren:
Debbie Redding, Dalton, Michael and Matt; Christophor and Debra
Jones, Ashton and Haydon; Brian and Lenette Goddard, Briley and
Megan; Jason Hones and Bobby Jones; and several nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband Merrell, Bernad,ne was preceded in
death by one son, Billy Goddard; her parents; two brothers, Bobby
Rahlf and Herbert Rahlf; and a son-in-law, Tommy Jones.
Funeral services for Mrs. Goddard will be held at 2 p.m. Friday,
Nov. 30 in Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with Danny W. Cornish
officiating. Burial will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl
Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Grandsons and great-grandsons serving as casket bearers will
be Chris Jones, Brian Goddard, Jason Jones, Bobby Jones, Dalton
Goddard, Michael Redding and Matt Redding.
Lloyd Winston LeBaron
Lloyd Winston LeBaron, Ponca City resident, and third of five
children, was born January 1, 1919, in Owasso, Oklahoma, to Loye
and Kathryn (Lyons) LeBaron.
Lloyd's childhood was spent around the Keystone area where he
attended public schools in Keystone and Fairfax, graduating from
Fairfax High School with the class of 1937.
He was baptized into Christ January 25, 1942, in Pawhuska.
Lloyd worked in the oil fields for Continental Oil Company and
also joined the National Guard. His unit was activated into the
45th Division, 171st Field Artillery Battalion serving as Liason
Sergeant when it became evident that the United States would
enter World War II. Lloyd landed in Europe at Anzio and fought
with his unit in the battles of Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno,
Southern France, Central Europe, and Rhineland. He was awarded
the American Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct
Medal and EAME with 6 Bronze Stars. He returned home after receiving
his honorable discharge from the army June 24, 1945, at Ft. Sam
Houston, Texas.
Lloyd moved to Ponca City and went to work for Continental in
the refinery, first as a painter, then as a compressor repairman.
On June 21, 1948, Lloyd was married to Raymona Mae Potts at First
Christian Church in Ponca City. Lloyd and Raymona joined Woodlands
Christian Church in 1958 where Lloyd held various positions of
leadership in the congregation over the years. Lloyd continued
working for Continental until his retirement in 1980.
Lloyd loved sports of all kinds, particularly St. Louis Cardinal
Baseball, all University of Oklahoma Sooner sports, and all Ponca
City Wildcat sports. He could be seen at nearly every home game
in Ponca City. He was given a Wildcat coach's hat for his loyal
attendance. He also was an avid fisherman, golfer, horseshoe
pitcher, and bowler. Lloyd and Raymona enjoyed playing Bridge
with family friends, pitching horseshoes as members of the Oklahoma
Horseshoe Pitchers Association and bowling where they belonged
to various leagues. They also enjoyed long walks around Lake
Ponca. Lloyd was also a ceaseless tinkerer "out in the garage."
He was a member of the VFW.
Lloyd was hospitalized October 30, 2007, with complications from
congestive heart failure and kidney failure. Upon release from
Ponca City Medical Center Nov. 9, 2007, he entered Shawn Manor
Skilled Nursing and lived there until his death November 25,
2007, at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 24 days. He was
preceded in death by his wife Raymona on June 10, 2005, his parents,
both sisters Audrey and Eleanor, and both brothers Donald and
Bruce.
Lloyd leaves to remember him one son and his wife, Jerold and
Mellanie LeBaron of Newkirk, and their children Keith of Norman,
Philip of Tonkawa, Brian, and Rachel of Newkirk; one daughter
Darla LeBaron of Ponca City, her son and his wife Nathan and
Cammie Caudill, and their daughter Natalie of Ponca City, Darla's
daughter and her husband Nicole Caudill and Ritchie Golay, and
their children Cole, Korie, and Zeth all of Tulsa, Darla's son
Robert (Robbie) Jones of Ponca City; and numerous cousins, nieces,
nephews, and in-laws.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2007, at
2:00pm in the chapel of the Trout Funeral Home with the Rev.
Dr. Paul Krueger, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in
Resthaven Memorial Park.
Casket bearers will be Keith, Philip, and Brian LeBaron, Nathan
Caudill, Robert Jones, and Darrell Wood.
Memorial contributions may be made to Woodlands Christian Church
of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
