Today starts the first week of the Charlie Adams Day Medallion Hunt.
The official Charlie Adams Day Medallion Hunt will run in each edition of the Newkirk Herald Journal over the next three weeks as Charlie Adams Day approaches. Copies of the clue are also available at The Newkirk Main Street office, located at 116 N. Main.
A separate medallion hunt will be held each week. Decoys will also be placed to make the hunt more challenging.
Persons finding the location of the medallion should text a photo of the found medallion to 580-761-3475. For those that don’t text, they can provide the location of the medallion to the Main Street office, located at 116 N. Main. The office is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The winner will receive a Charlie Adams Day basket of goodies and two free tasting kit tickets for Charlie Adams Day, September 10.
I owe my soul to the WPA
In this fair city I was the last of my kind to lay
Nehemiah had long gone to his reward
So not by him was I poured
Much sweat and perhaps some blood was spilt in me
By men who were so thankful to Roosevelt you see
Today my purpose seems a mystery
As in my bowels a fire did often burn blistery
Today quite placid I do seem
One might say I had a gleam
Charming and quaint you might say
But Charlie's medallion has come to hide away
